What's The Meaning Of IC611 For AC Motor?

The code system for the cooling medium of three-phase asynchronous motors strictly follows the international standard IEC 60034-6:2019 "Rotating Electrical Machines Part 6: Cooling Methods" and the national standard GB/T 1993-2019 "Cooling Methods for Rotating Electrical Machines". The two standards are equivalent and have completely identical codes.

The cooling medium code is the core component of the IC (cooling method) code, and the complete structure of the IC code is:

"IC+Cooling Circuit Layout Code+Cooling Medium Code+Code for Promotion Method"

Among them, the Cooling Medium Code directly identifies the type of cooling medium, mainly using letter codes, and numerical codes are only used for specific supplementary scenarios.

Core: Alphabet code for cooling media (mainstream identification)

Alphabet code is a standardized identification for cooling media, covering the vast majority of motor application scenarios. Common codes and corresponding media are shown in the following table:

Alphabet code

Cooling medium

Applicable scenarios&technical features

Common IC code

A

air

The most universal medium, with low cost and simple maintenance, suitable for small and medium-sized asynchronous motors; Divided into forms such as free air and forced air

IC01-Self cooling;

IC11-Self fan cooling;

IC411-enclosed self circulating air cooling

H

hydrogen

The thermal conductivity is 7 times that of air, with low loss and low noise, only suitable for large high-voltage motors/generators (such as steam turbine generators); Need to be equipped with hydrogen purification and explosion-proof system

IC511H-Open hydrogen cooling;

IC611H-closed hydrogen circulation cooling

W

water

The cooling efficiency is extremely high, divided into stator water cooling, rotor water cooling, or stator rotor dual water cooling, suitable for high-voltage high-power asynchronous motors (such as steel rolling motors, mine hoisting motors)

IC81W-Stator water cooling, air-water heat exchange

IC86W-stator&rotor water cooling

O

oil

Using mineral oil or synthetic oil as a medium, heat is carried away through oil circulation, suitable for special high-temperature working condition motors (such as metallurgical and chemical motors)

IC611O-closed oil circulation cooling; IC711O-oil immersed cooling

N

nitrogen

Inert gas, used as a substitute for air in flammable and explosive environments (such as coal mines, petrochemical motors), to avoid oxidation and explosion risks

IC411N-
Closed nitrogen circulation cooling

F

freon

Specially designed for low-temperature cooling, suitable for motors operating in ultra-low temperature conditions (such as those used in polar equipment), it has gradually been replaced by environmentally friendly refrigerants

IC411F-Closed freon cycle cooling

Key Instructions

• Implicit rules of air medium

When the cooling medium is air, the letter code A can be omitted and the IC code body can be directly marked. For example, IC411 is equivalent to IC411A, both representing closed self circulating air cooling.

• Mixed medium identification

If the motor adopts a mixed cooling system such as "air-water" or "air oil", the main medium code must be marked. For example, IC81W represents air as the secondary medium and water as the primary cooling medium (cooling the air through a water cooler).

• Numerical codes

rarely used in the identification of cooling media and are only used as supplementary explanations for the number of cooling circuits or specific media classifications, without directly corresponding to the media type.

For example,the first two digits of the IC code represent the circuit layout, for example, "4" in "IC41" represents a closed circuit, "1" represents radial ventilation, and is independent of the medium.

And IC611 cooling means the motor cooled under Closed Air Circulation Cooling.
